Interview Myths
Well, today is the day you stop. Because today we’re gonna go on a myth-hunt. In this chase, we’ll visit some interview myths that are mostly misunderstood pieces of advice. And we’re gonna bust these interview myths right in their faces! Let’s go.
Job Interview Myths #1: The Most Qualified Person Gets the Job
What’s on paper doesn’t matter if you can knock the socks off of the interviewer. Shine on, you crazy diamond!
Job Interview Myth #2: Every Interview Question has One Correct Answer
Well, crazy thing is, most of them don’t. Especially HR interview questions. Actually, your creativity decides if you’re gonna breeze through the interview or gloriously bore the hell out of the interviewer.
Job Interview Myth #3: Keep the Answers Short
Two things. One, yes, some answers are meant to be kept short. Like the ubiquitous “tell me about yourself”. Two, but when you need to dazzle the interviewer, don’t hold back on your experience and accomplishments. The great thing about them is they predict your on-the-job performance.
Plus, try answering problem-solving interview questions in great depth. It’s often the process and the thought that counts instead of arriving at the correct answer.
Job Interview Myth #4: Answer the Interviewer Quickly
Nope. Chances are, you’ll end up answering nervously without understanding the complete question. Our advice? Follow the 3-second rule. Wait 3 secs to process the question and then fire your answer.
Job Interview Myth #5: Asking Hiring Manager Lots of Question
It’s totally fine to ask questions towards the end of your interview. In fact, we encourage it. But here’s the thing – when you start asking dumb, irrelevant questions, you throw a perfectly well interview session out the door. It doesn’t matter how great your interview went, your meaningless questions just lost the hiring manager. Stop. And start asking worthwhile questions.
Finally, don’t forget your strengths. Bring out your inner Hulk (not literally, duh!) to knock your next job interview out of the park. Because we know you got this!]]>
